Managed scarcity, waiting lists, limited production: the Birkin escapes the usual rules of depreciation. On the secondary market some configurations trade at twice the boutique price — but the gap between two professional offers can also run into thousands of euros.
What drives the value
- Size: the 25 and the 30 concentrate demand, the 35 and 40 move more slowly;
- Leather: Togo, Epsom, Clemence, Chèvre and, above all, exotic skins;
- Colour: neutrals (black, étoupe, gold) are the safe bets;
- Hardware: palladium or gold-plated, and the state of the plating;
- The blind stamp, which dates the production.
The paperwork that makes a difference
- The original Hermès invoice in your name;
- Box, dust bag, clochette, padlock and keys in their pouch;
- Any documented Hermès workshop service.
Why competition between buyers matters
Professional buyers do not all serve the same end clients. A specialist in exotic leathers will value your bag differently from a generalist reseller. We consult several houses compare the offers received and present you with only the most relevant one.
